The rain has been relentless this whole winter here in San Diego so many of my students have been limited to their time to practice and play so far here in 2019. If you are in the midwest or east coast in the US, the cold and snow have prevented play or practice for the most part.
A good way to look at this coming year is not how good you currently are, but rather How Good Do You Want To Be? To find the answer to how good you want to be, I encourage you (heavily) to review your game and rate it in these critical categories. On a scale of 1-10 (10 being the best) rate your : Putting inside 5 feet Putting 5-30 feet Chipping near a green getting up and down in 2 shots Pitch shots of 20-40 yards Pitch shots of 40-60 yards Approach shots of 60-110 yards Short Irons Long Irons Fairway wood or hybrid Driving As you look over those areas it should help us map out where things need to be worked on going forward. If your average score now is 80 or 90 or 100 where do we need to get it to? What is the score? I know many of my players do not like trying to put up a number they want to get to, but for this exercise please do. As you rate your performance it will help us to map out where your swing work will be, and for some of my players we will be outdoor much more than before because the short game needs improvement or your ball trajectory for distance control. Take some time and rate yourself, when I did this for myself I found my play inside 60 yards is poor. But I worked heavily from 60-110 last year so I am pleased with that. We need a plan to get you where you wish to be, and to start with you need to dig deep and rate yourself. For you to know how good you want to be this year, you must really be honest with every area above as you rate yourself. No fluff, be brutally honest with your performance. Peak Performance comes from knowing where you start and where you wish to go.
