February is flowing and these last few days players are coming back in to try new clubs and get back at working on their swing. The rain is gone, still cool but at least we can golf all year here!
I wanted to thank each of you for taking part in my initial Player Development Program. As all things start; your vision of something new is what you see on your horizon. This program was on the horizon when I was in Sacramento and I had a version of that one here these last 6 month. As a coach I have to evolve and find the formula that works for my players. Thus this is why I have started my Player Development Programs here in San Diego. I will add here that I only consider a VERY FEW players for a program that you took on with me. So you all were hand picked by me because I believed you had the mental fortitude to expand yourself for your golf game. I think the three players that joined me in Palm Springs can see that each player is at their own Unique level of need for mental improvement. Thus all of you in the program are unique in your own individual way. How perfect is that? That is golf! This is why going forward I am going to continue with this program but divide it to three levels. The first level is what you have just went through. If you look back over the blogs I have shared you can see that starting with the pre-shot routine and learning how to visualize shots can really improve a players performance. As I mentioned in my last blog the retreat was really designed to have fun but also allow each player how to understand and experience the ways the conscious mind works in your golf game and the subconscious. The second level of this program will have to be much more individualized in the process. Thus zoom meetings and talking through and understanding each players mindset will be paramount to the level 2 program. On a personal level, the retreat that we just finished, though exhausting to go through with worry and double checking everything I was doing, was literally The MOST fun I have had coaching since I started coaching full time in 2002! As I told the players there, I had the inspiration to do the retreat from attending retreats of Dr. Deepak Chopra. I traveled from Chicago to LaCosta Resort in Carlsbad and never hesitated on the cost of that trip. My soul knew I had to go! His retreats and personal coaching on how your mind sets the stage for life was invaluable to me and very inspirational. The second level, which I will finalize this month will take on more of mental performance and what I call 'Mental Proficiency' when you play and practice. It is a further deeper examination of what you the golfer is thinking, doing and reacting to. Pessimism, optimism, creating confidence, resiliency and mental reactions will be part of the program. Certainly I can see that each player is at different levels mentally and that is the beauty of coaching! No two players are the same. No two minds are the same and one player sees birdie opportunity on a hole while another hopes for par or bogey. So be it. My job is to bring the best from each player then. Each player has a unique resume and background and each their own physical mobility issues. I have found an expert in the area that I am partnering with to help my players in their body mobility. Just this morning I worked with him for an hour on my mobility to the right (follow thru) then the next hour we went over the 5 players I coach and their mobility needs. So I am committed to bring the best outcomes to my players in multiple ways. So going forward I will expand to a deeper level of individual coaching in level 2. If you want information on that please let me know. I will have it finalized in 2 weeks. Level 3 of the program is very deep and one has to get through the 2nd level in order for the 3rd level to be of value to you. The third level is what I saw Dr Chopra do and it is still a vision on the horizon. I can certainly bring concepts of that third level to retreats in mean time. On a personal level, each of you in this program has assisted me in growing as a coach. Man I have a lot of growing to do, but that is the beauty of life! Each day a new day and new concepts, ideas to take on and grow with. So I am excited to keep moving forward. Your participation in my PDP was very rewarding to me. I feel close to everyone in the group and really enjoy all of you and your unique perspective of golf. Exceptional people are always striving to continue to be exceptional.....that is the definition of each of you! So thank you for your exceptional attitude and effort and allowing me to blossom and grow as a coach and individual. Remember my motto from my book Awakening to Golf..."keep it in the short grass". Thank you again for your participation. If you want information on the 2nd level just email or text me.
