The Truth About Your Golf Identity

3/4/2026

Every golfer believes they are working on their swing.  Very few understand they are actually working on their identity.

Your motion is not random. It is the physical expression of the story you've been living- your habits, your beliefs, your fears, your history.  When you stand over the ball, you are not swinging a club. You are swinging yourself.

Most players try to fix their mechanics without ever examining the identity that created those mechanics.  They chase positions, drills, and tips, hoping for a breakthrough that never arrives.  The truth is simpler and harder:

Your swing cannot outperform the identity that built it

In the studio, I measure motion and precision- joint angles, segment speeds, pressure movement. rotation patterns.  But the deeper work begins when we ask the question most golfers avoid:

Who is the person producing the motion?

Some players move like someone protecting themselves.
Some move like someone trying to prove something.
Some move like someone who doesn't trust their body.
Some move like someone who has never been allowed to take up space.

These patterns show up in data long before they show up in ball flight.

Identity work is not therapy.  It is not mindset coaching.  It is the process of aligning the person you are with the motion you want to produce.  When those two things match, the swing becomes inevitable-not forced.

This is where the work becomes mythic.

Your swing is a mirror.
It reflects the version of you that steps into the shot.

When we change the identity behind the motion, the motion changes without resistance.  Mechanics begin to reorganize themselves.  Patterns dissolve. Space opens.  The body remembers what it was capable before the compensations.

This is awakening:

You are not here to learn a new swing.
You are here to become the person capable of producing it.

Identity-Based Golf Performance is not about becoming someone new.  It is about returning to the version of you that moves without fear, without tension, without weight of old stories.

Your best swing is already inside you.
We are just removing everything that isn't you.

The Motion Truth Session - The Moment You Finally See Your Real Swing

2/28/2026

Most golfers walk into a lesson carrying the same quiet frustration: “I’m inconsistent.”

They say it casually, but the truth underneath is heavier. They’ve been living in the gap between what they think they’re doing and what they’re actually doing. They’ve tried tips, drills, YouTube videos, and well‑meaning advice — but nothing sticks, because nothing has ever addressed the root cause.

When a golfer steps into my studio for a Motion Truth Session, I don’t meet their swing first. I meet their aura — their energy, their tension, their hope, and the story they’ve been telling themselves.

I ask them about their game.
What ball flights they see.
What they score.
What frustrates them.
What they’ve been working on.
(Usually something from YouTube.)

And then I let them warm up. Ten swings. No coaching. No interference. Just truth revealing itself.

---

Why Most Golfers Feel Inconsistent

After those first swings, the Motion Truth Session begins with three simple, clinical questions:

• Does the club swing on plane?
• Is the low point of the swing efficient?
• Is the clubface square to the path?

If one, two, or all three are off, the golfer will be inconsistent. Not because they lack talent — but because their motion is built on compensations.

My job is to find the root cause — the thing underneath the inconsistency.

I call it The Pink Elephant in the Room.

It’s always there.
It’s always running the show.
And no one has ever pointed to it directly.

---

What the Motion Truth Session Measures

The session is a diagnostic scan of your motion, built around measurable truth:

• 3D body motion
• Pelvis and ribcage rotation
• Trail arm structure
• Kinematic sequence
• Clubface‑to‑path relationship
• Low point control
• Tempo and timing patterns

This is not “video analysis.”
This is the moment your swing becomes understandable.

---

The Pink Elephant in the Room: Your Root Cause

Every golfer has one.
It’s the single pattern that forces every other compensation.

Once you see it, everything makes sense.
Once you understand it, everything changes.

---

A Real Example: The 12‑Handicap Who Wanted to Become a 5

Just this week, a 12‑handicap player walked in with rare clarity: “I want to be a 5.”

Very few golfers set a goal like that. It tells me they’re ready.

He told me he was inconsistent.
He told me he practiced.
He told me he’d tried different tips.
But nothing changed.

After ten warm‑up swings, the truth was obvious:

His ball position was too far back.
Because of that, his chest sway moved too far left of his pelvic sway.
And because of that, his low point and face control were unpredictable.

That was the Pink Elephant.

Not his grip.
Not his takeaway.
Not his tempo.
Not the YouTube tip he was chasing.

Just one root cause creating a chain reaction of compensations.

We worked on that single correction for twenty minutes.
He asked questions — “What about this? What about that?”
I showed him the moves he had built to survive as a 12‑handicap player.

He’s athletic.
He’s capable.
He just needed the truth.

---

Why Traditional Lessons Don’t Fix the Real Problem

Most lessons focus on symptoms:

“Turn more.”
“Stay connected.”
“Keep your head still.”
“Shallow the club.”

But symptoms aren’t causes.

Golfers plateau because no one has ever shown them the why behind their inconsistency. Without the why, they chase fixes that don’t matter and ignore the one thing that does.

The Motion Truth Session is the moment the why becomes visible.

---

The Identity Shift That Happens in a Motion Truth Session

When I assign the Pink Elephant — the one thing they must work on for two weeks — golfers always want to go down the rabbit hole.

They want more.
They want to fix everything at once.
They want to steer the ship.

But that’s not how transformation works.

So I speak with a calm, firm tone — the tone of someone who knows exactly what they’re doing:

“No. Just this one thing for two weeks.”

And in that moment, I feel clarity and confidence.
I feel the grounded certainty of being the authority in this valley.
I know the diagnosis is correct.
I know the path is right.
I know this is the beginning of real change.

And the golfer feels it too.

---

Immediate Proof

After the first adjustment, he hit his 7‑iron to 40 feet from 170 yards.

For context:
A PGA Tour player’s proximity from 170 yards is 34 feet.

He smiled — not because of the number, but because he finally understood why he’d been inconsistent for years.

He committed to the Pink Elephant for two weeks.
He committed to the mobility work I assigned.
He bought a 5‑lesson pack.
And this was just the Motion Truth Session.

---

What Happens After the Session: The 30‑Day Transformation

After the session, the real work begins:

• You receive your Truth Report.
• You get 30 days of swing submissions.
• I monitor your patterns.
• I guide your corrections.
• You build new motion on top of real understanding.

This is how golfers change — not through tips, but through truth.

these two parts of your mind should work like the caddy and player

In my latest podcast released on January 24th I dive into the role that your imagination has when you play.  I begin to show golfers how their pre-shot routine is very important for any golfer if they want to be more consistent.

In my Player Development Program, I work with golfers who are tired of being inconsistent with their golf performance.  They know their swing is good enough to play to a better score.  They also realize that how the use their mind when they play could be better.

Also, in this podcast I read from an excerpt from my new book 7 Items You Must Consider Before Your Next Shot.  This book, now in its 2nd edition, is something I give my players I coach in my Player Development Program.

In this latest podcast I mention how the conscious mind works in conjunction with the subconscious mind.  The conscious mind is sending signals, orders, words, thoughts etc towards outcomes that will be unveiled for all golfers at all levels.

The subconscious receives these impressions and goes to work instantly to try to reflect what is being expressed to it from the conscious mind.

Here is where the average golfer who wants to be more consistent does not realize the power of the mind in every aspect of your game.

Although I have taught over 30,000 lessons in my 34 years of coaching, players still to this day do not appreciate how much their mind is working to create the reality they see when they play.

As a golfer you have to be careful what you send to the subconscious mind.  Your conscious mind is always responding to what it sees and then is deciding how to act in regard to your golf game.

Most golfers are unaware of how the two parts of consciousness impact their golf game.  As a golfer you must monitor your thoughts, words and beliefs at all times.  This is because when your subconscious receives the information from the conscious mind it goes to work immediately
to manifest what is being presented to it.

Good or bad, what you say and think, etc is being sent like a powerful ray of information and the subconscious goes to work to create what it is being instructed.

I invite you to listen to my January 24th podcast and learn a little more about how the two parts of your mind work in tandem like a player and caddy on the course.

My Player Development Program coaches you on how to use these two parts of your mind so you play much more consistently and enjoy golf to the fullest.

Data in relation to your shots you see

7/3/2024

We live in a day and age now where everything is data driven.  In my last 15 years of coaching using data of what the ball is doing for my players and what each of my students is doing with their body in their swings has greatly improved my coaching and how my players improve.

Literally your body motions can be measured and when this data is compared to the shot shapes you see that you prefer then this allows any golfer to find out what and how the best version of themselves is when they play.  As a biomechanic expert in the golf swing, my partnering with SportsboxAI allows me to give immediate feedback visually to my student and also transfer data to my student.

This data helps the player 'feel' certain motions when they hit shots.  The data can be helpful in improving the swing and is even more valuable to better or elite players because the data of what their body is doing in the swing becomes the blueprint for a golfer to take to the range for practice or to the course.

Data is powerful information for any golfer, it can help you understand the feels you have when you hit a good shot and it helps you see when poor shots are struck, what unique areas in your swing may need improved for you to achieve your desired outcome for your golf game.

As a golfer you see certain shots on the range or the course and you have an aha moment and state "OMGosh, that was it! That felt amazing".  As a golfer you know these moments are elusive and do not happen often, but when these aha moments happen you wish you had a way to harness that moment in time and hold on to it.

At the moment you have that aha moment it is literally also one of the 'best versions of yourself' that you can have as a golfer.  When I apply my video to a lesson of a players swing and I can also support this video of the shot you hit with the data of what your body is doing during that great shot, then this is setting the template for any golfer to follow.  .

If the best version of you is not there and you do not see the best shot then I can use my video assessment and my body motion measurement to help you understand what will need to be done to get you to your next level of golf...what ever your next level it is that you want it to be.

All golfers no matter what level of play they are at practice because they want to get better.  Golfers practice because they are trying to improve their technique, find the feel of the shot they are attempting to improve and then execute that outcome on the course.

That is why it is important for golfers to embrace that in this day in age everything is data driven.  Data can really help golfers.  Golfers look for more distance so they look for ball speed, clubhead speed, they monitor the path of the club from data and they monitor the angle of attack of the club with data.  If you are buying a driver you will want to know the launch angle of the shot and the backspin of the driver (from data) so you will get the maximum return on your investment with the new driver you are being fit for.

When I coach with motion measurements of what your body is doing with each shot  then this is giving me fact based information (data) on what you are doing in your swing and does it match the data of very efficient swings? There is not guesswork from the naked eye, so there is less room for error in a shot being assessed.  But more importantly; a golfer will improve their swing much faster when data is also presented about their body, just like a golfer wanted data for the perfect fitting driver for them.

Golf instruction is trending dramatically to more fact based information so each student can improve their motions more efficiently and at a much faster rate than ever before.

There are many levels of golfers, beginners, intermediate, advanced, and elite.
You are in one of those levels and three dimensional information that I can extract from my SportsboxAI coaching platform can help you understand the areas  that need to be improved as a beginner or intermediate player to help you become a better version of yourself on the course.

If you are an advanced or elite player then the data I can reveal can help us see if your body positions have changed at all for some reason? Perhaps your set up at address with your driver is slightly different for some reason?  When I coach better players I use their specific data points that work for them for there best shots.  This is what I call their authentic self.....the true good player they are.

Better players rely on feel all the time but cannot really tell if the feel is the same from day to day.  Every golfer knows that it is an elusive challenging sport and this is why people love playing it.  The love the challenge of golf.

Coaching golf for me has been fun for the past 30 years because I love to watch a player improve their swing, lower their scores, hone their skills and more importantly...have more FUN PLAYING GOLF.

When it comes to data in your swing, the data accumulated can help you improve at a faster rate.  If you are an advanced golfer and really enjoy your current swing and who you are, then data can also give you a base line of information to rely on if you start seeing shots off line, missing the target, etc.

In the US Open at Pinehurst #2 course the winner Bryson DeChambeau was assisted in his winning from data he and his coach had gathered.  He was not playing well going into the tournament but a week prior he and his coach went to get some basic information on his swing based on how his body was reacting in each swing.  Because he was occasionally fading tee shots and not drawing them Bryson felt off in his swing motion.  But the shot shape was off and his data of spin and curve he was used to seeing had changed.  This was a red flag alarm moment for him.

His authentic swing had changed and they were on a quest to find the answer. Long story short, they discovered it.  With the naked eye or video they could not find the key area that was causing this chain reaction that led to the fade. They went back to the data of his best swings of his authentic self that they had measured and his body positions and turns and spine rotation and tilts and found one area that was dramatically changing his shot shape.

With the knowledge in hand within 3 days he was back to striking it really well and his opening Thursday round of 67 and hitting 13 of 14 fairways was the proof in his mind that he was back on track.  He became extremely confident again and as all golfers know, when you have confidence you are  a powerful creator in any sport!

Data can be a good thing to help any golfer create change in their swing faster.  It can also be a powerful tool to help you measure what your body is doing when you see your best shots.  When better movements are created and measured and you see the shot you want to see, then it will give you the feels you need to take to the course.  So those feels also bring confidence with you to the course.  If you are more confident you will play better golf!
